Most Number Of Wicket Takers In IPL

Well, the most awaited Indian Premier League season 2020 is just a month away and it will be played in UAE this time. In this IPL stats, we are going to show the most number of wicket-takers from all the IPL seasons starting from 2008 to till now. Overall, totally 8845 wickets have fallen from IPL season 1 which includes “run-outs”, “retired hurt” and “obstructing the field”. The total number of wickets taken by bowlers is 8814 excluding the super over wickets.



Top Five Wickets Takers

When it comes to the list of top IPL wickets taker from all the season, we can see all the top five bowlers are taken more than 150 wickets. This list starts with Mumbai Indian’s Lasith Malinga, he has taken totally 188 wickets so far. The Chennai Super Kings Dwayne Bravo comes 2nd place in this list, he has taken totally 168 wickets. The third most wicket-taker is Amit Mishra mostly he has played for the KKR IPL team, he has taken 166 wickets. Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla have taken 161 and 157 wickets respectively.

Most Number Of Wickets In An Innings


In this most number of wickets in an IPL match list, we have at least 5 bowlers who have taken 6 wickets in an IPL T20 game. Let’s recap each and every bowler with the IPL match played.


SRH’s Darren Sammy took 6 wickets against the Kings XI Punjab on 11th May 2013, in which the Sunrisers Hyderabad team have won the match by 30 runs margin. Rajasthan Royal’s Sohail Tanvir has taken 6 wickets against the Chennai Super Kings on a league match in 2008, in this match, the RR beat CSK by 8 wickets.

Mumbai Indian’s Alzarri Joseph has taken 6 wickets against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last year’s IPL on 6th April, in which the MI team has won the match by 40 runs. In this list, we also have Andre Russel and Adam Zampa, both the bowlers have taken 6 wickets in an IPL inning.

  • IPL 2013 - CSK’s D Bravo has taken 34 wickets
  • IPL 2012 - M Morkel has taken 30 wickets in this season.
  • IPL 2011 - MI’s Lasith Malinga has taken 30 wickets
  • IPL 2010 - Pragyan Ojha has taken 22 wickets
  • IPL 2009 - RP Singh has taken 26 wickets
  • IPL 2008 - Rajasthan Royal’s Sohail Tanvir has taken 24 wickets
